Open Monuments Day

Celebrate 40 years of Dr. Guislain Museum!

On the edge of the city, at the gateway to the Bloemekenswijk neighbourhood, stands our remarkable protected monument dating back to 1857. Once built as a secluded "model asylum" to isolate those deemed "insane" from society, it now celebrates its 40th anniversary during Open Monuments Day as a welcoming public space dedicated to cultural heritage, art and everything that challenges the norm.

Step through our iconic gateway, leave the bustle of the city behind and escape the ordinary.

Where psychiatry has often been associated with keys, locked doors and exclusion, we are having every door wide open for this special anniversary. During exclusive guided tours, you'll enjoy a rare behind-the-scenes experience. Wander through the historic corridors and discover hidden rooms and gardens that are normally closed to visitors—spaces that will become even less accessible as future renovation works progress.

Immerse yourself in the layered history of this remarkable place, meet our community and celebrate this milestone with us—free of charge!

More information and registration details will be announced soon.
